Stop Guessing Your Size: How to Read a Garment Chart
Most size charts fail for the same reason: they tell you what a "Large" is, without telling you what a Large is compared to the shirt already in your drawer that fits perfectly.
Every chart on this site is a garment measurement taken flat. We lay the piece down, measure it edge to edge, and publish that number. It is not your chest measurement. That distinction is the whole trick.
The two-minute method
- Find a piece you already love the fit of. Same category — a tee for a tee, joggers for joggers. Fit preference does not transfer across categories.
- Lay it flat on a table or the floor. Smooth it out. Do not stretch it.
- Measure chest width: from the stitch under one armpit straight across to the other. That single number does most of the work.
- Measure length: from where the shoulder seam meets the collar, straight down to the hem.
- Match those two numbers to the chart on the product page. Pick the row closest to what you measured.
Reading the result
If your measurements land between two sizes, the deciding factor is what you want the piece to do. Sizing down gives you a closer fit through the body. Sizing up gives you more room and more drop through the shoulder.
On our oversized cuts, note that they are already oversized. The chart numbers reflect that. If you size up on an oversized tee expecting a normal fit, you will get a very large shirt.
Why the numbers move slightly
Cut-and-sew garments vary by a centimetre or two between units. That is normal manufacturing tolerance, not a defect, and it is why every chart carries a 1–3 cm variance note. Washed and dyed pieces vary a little more than plain ones, because the wash process itself is not perfectly uniform.
